I'm not the kind of girl that squeals and flails and flees in terror at the sight of a bug. But then, I've posted enough bug photos on here that you probably already knew that.
I'm wondering, however, just how much respect I should give to these furry creatures...
For the last two weeks, I've seen them all over my house... OUTSIDE, thankfully.
It must be furry spider season! They're in the corners of my doorways; their webs cross and block my stairway leading down to the office (and I gently remove it with a long stick so I can pass, while the spider panics and crawls furiously to the rhododendron bush); the other morning, there were even two webs (and two fat spiders in the center of them) on my car - bumper to rear windshield!
Okay, so I don't squeal, flail and flee... but I do shiver a little at the sight of them. Icky - Eeeew.
Any insights on what kind of spider this is? ... and should I be afraid?

WOW! I can't see it well enough to try to identify it but I would keep my distance just to be safe.
You're getting really good at the shallow depth of focus, I might add! Way to go! I also love that you were able to capture the dew/rain in the webs.
I'm hoping to have many more photo blogs up soon. The new computer was just delivered 5 minutes ago! It's HUGE!
LOVE YOU!
Great photos, Pam. However, I must say that I'm glad they're not hanging around here. We are having our fill of "stink bugs".
I think the better question would be, "Should I be armed?"....
I say YES on both counts!
We have wolf spiders here in Montana, and honestly, I think they must've gotten their names because a couple of them took a wolf down, one time. They get SO BIG, and there's nothing remotely cool about them. They are just hideous creatures. And yes, I did read Charlotte's Web, and yes, I still shudder when I see spiders!
Gosh, if I don't read a post from you in a week, I'll contact the local authorities to look and make sure the spiders didn't get you. For goodness sake, don't go outside without a shovel!
Yick.
